Redeemer Presbyterian Church is a local congregation of people from a variety of backgrounds, bound together by a common bond – we have been saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ. The word Redeemer reflects our desire to honor the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that all people are born with a sinful nature that makes them rebel against God. But God so loved the world that he sent Jesus Christ to save his people from their sins through his substitutionary death on the cross and to give them abundant life. The word Presbyterian comes from the biblical Greek word presbuteros, which means elder. The Bible teaches that God raises up elders to shepherd the flock under the authority of the Lord, the Good Shepherd. The word Church reflects our relationship to the world. Jesus said, “I will build my church.” The word church in the Bible means “a people who are called out.” At Redeemer Presbyterian Church we believe that we are a people that have been called out of darkness and into God’s marvelous light to declare his praises to a lost world. The Orthodox Presbyterian Church is a growing denomination of some 240 local congregations and 60 new church projects throughout North America. Using the word orthodox, which means “straight” or “correct doctrine,” the OPC was formed in 1936 to carry the banner of biblical Christianity and historic Presbyterianism. You may log on to www.opc.org to find out more about the history and doctrine of the OPC. |
